Royal Building products of Canada is a huge company that manufactures window extrusions for many of our local companies and a wide range of vinyl siding products. Because of the favorable exchange rate some of their products are relative bargains. Royal products have a reputation for performing very well under cold conditions. Royal vinyl products must pass the same tests as American products, but where our product impact tests are done at room temperature, theirs are done at freezing. Their impact tests exceed the ASTM standard and are an excellent choice for cold areas.

Royal products also have a great reputation for not fading (their quality product lines like Royal Woodland, and Architectural) and offer one of the very best anti fade warranties in the industry. Royal Woodland comes standard in a 16 foot length and was the first company I knew of going back a great many years. Today there are many companies offering long panels. The Royal Woodland panel offers the highest wind rating I know of at 240 miles per hour.
High wind areas along the coast require "hurricane panels" rated at 130 mph or above. The seam lines are not as tight as an Alside Centerlock, but a person wanting a high impact strength siding at freezing temperatures would be hard pressed to find a better solution at a good price.
Although I do not get a lot of demand for smooth siding finishes looking like fresh paint, I have put up several.(Architectural looks elegant on a Victorian) and no other vinyl siding looks nicer than the Architectural series from Royal for that application. (Monogram or Charter Oak are also quality choices for a nice smooth finish) Their Architectural series is a special order product, seldom seen, but of exceptional quality and thickness (50 mils). Royal makes a shake pattern under their Showplace label that is very dimensional. This is where the Royal pattern differs from other shake patterns on the market. It is actually too rustic for most peoples' taste, but if you have a cabin or home in the woods or by a lake, etc., it may be just what you have searched for. Royal Showplace is a very rugged natural looking siding with a deep multi colored finish giving it an even deeper look than it naturally has. This product has been very popular in Eastern Washington and in Idaho. (Special order)
For a value line of products, Royal offers some popular choices. Residential is a relatively thick vinyl siding that offers the homeowner a cheaper alternative to other products. The main thing a homeowner gives up when going to the value lines is fade resistance. This is also true of all other major companies also. That is how companies can make the product cheaper in a hurry.
Sun inhibitors are expensive to manufacture. A prudent homeowner would be wise to avoid colors prone to fade such as blues and yellows. But a home in white or light gray, etc. would fare well and give the homeowner a nice siding job for the money. We are not exactly the sun capital of the nation, but you still should take care if the building has a sunny location with exposed areas. In terms of impact resistance and the ability to resist a crack under freezing temperatures, this is a good siding.
