Alcoa Grand Sierra - Grand Sierra Siding
Alcoa is one of the oldest siding manufacturers in America. Alcoa has a long history of building quality aluminum siding and manufactures a wide range of vinyl sidings. Grand Sierra is a nice product line with impressive specifications. It is a 46 mil nominal thickness, hurricane rated (190 mph), features a strong double strength nail hem, and a 3/4 inch profile height. The manufacturer claims it is 200% more rigid than normal vinyl sidings. The color chart is large and varied with 14 color choices.
The grain pattern nicely resembles straight grained cedar. Alcoa uses a Geloy resin technology for high performance and color retention which they claim provides superior fade resistance. We have had some problems of late with faded siding and the warranty policy of Alcoa's replacement policy does not cover the needed replacement costs in WA. Thankfully some of our loyal installers (and our company) have been willing to work for wages far below the industry average to help our customers or they (our customers) would be out a lot of money.
In years past their service used to be quite good so, hopefully we will see a return to their old practices soon. One thing Alcoa has always done well is accessory items like Door Surrounds, and their coil stock (vinyl clad aluminum) for "wrapping facia boards, etc." has always been of the finest quality hearkening back to their aluminum fame.
Grand Sierra is Alcoa's top of the line "hollow" product.
The Grand Sierra Line and the Mastic Quest 3 lines are available in double 4 inch, double 4 1/2 inch Dutch Lap , and double 5 inch horizontal siding. The normal panel length is 12 feet but are also available in 16 foot lengths (stocking varies/special order).
The 4 inch width clapboard is quite popular. The Dutch lap siding pattern is becoming more popular daily. It is the most rigid of the three patterns and is heavily favored in Canada. The 5 inch pattern is best suited to the larger structures, but in the end the decision is yours and what pleases your eye.
